Squares of caramel coloured fudge with sea salt flakes.

Not just the appliance of choice for soups and stews, the slow cooker is used to make this sweet, salted caramel fudge.

Ingredients

1 tin sweetened condensed milk
1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1/4 cup golden syrup
2 Tablespoons butter
375 g white chocolate
Sea salt flakes

Tools

Slow cooker
Measuring cups and spoons
Spoon for stirring
Glass
Spatula
Slice tin
Knife to cut the fudge

Method

Break up the white chocolate into pieces.

Add the sweetened condensed milk, brown sugar, golden syrup, butter and white chocolate to the slow cooker. Mix in 1 teaspoon of the sea salt flakes.

Stir every 10 minutes for approx 1.5 hours, on high with the lid off the slow cooker.

The mixture will start forming a crust on top. Take a small drop of the mixture, and drop into a glass of cold water. If ready it will form a hard ball.

Line the slice tin with baking paper. Pour the fudge mixture into the slice tin, smooth with a spatula and sprinkle with a little extra sea salt. Let set overnight.

Cut into squares and store in an airtight container.
