Festival of Inclusion

The Festival aims to: Provide people with disabilities with skills and knowledge that will support them to increase their choice of mainstream activities. Showcase inclusive activities and inclusive strategies for people with disabilities, family members, carers, supporters, service providers (both disability and mainstream), and the general public.


Festival of inclusion

You are invited to attend the Centre for Disability Studies Festival of Inclusion which is being held on 20 & 21 November 2019. The purpose of the Festival is to showcase good inclusion through a series of invited lectures, workshops and interactive activities.

Day 1: Wednesday 20 November is being held at the University of Sydney. It begins with Professor Christine Bigby from La Trobe University sharing her latest research outcomes on inclusive practice covering, supported decision making and active support. This will be followed by a series of workshops illustrating research-into-practice within the disability sector covering the areas of supported living, urban design, inclusive education, arts inclusion and inclusive research. The day will finish with a World Café looking at how we can harvest evidence about our own inclusive practice.

Day 2: Thursday 21 November is being held at the Netball Centre, Sydney Olympic Park. It will begin with Professor Alice Schippers, from the Netherlands, sharing how inclusive policies and practices within the city of Almere, Netherlands promotes social inclusion that relates to employment, education, welfare and leisure. This will be followed by an opportunity for people with disability to visit several stalls where inclusive activities will be showcased as well as the opportunity to participate in a series of workshops. In the afternoon there will be interactive sport displays, as well as panel of Paralympians speaking from their perspectives. The day will close with a soiree, where participants can enjoy some dancing and refreshments.

CDS would like as many people with disability as possible to experience the Festival and has the following tickets available:
- Two-for-the-price of one tickets for both days;
- Group of 5 tickets for day 2 for $100; or
- Group of 10 tickets for day 2 for $150.

Every concession ticket includes free entry for a support worker.
