A girl with glasses and dark hair with intellectual disability is using a laptop computer.

Our friends at CID have written a position statement on technology. People with intellectual disability have the right to effective communications to let them live a good life.

In the last 2 years particularly, technology and communications issues experienced by people with intellectual disability have been highlighted. The lack of accessible, timely information about critical topics is a concern to the sector.

More and more organisations are moving systems to online virtual spaces, chatbot, or website services. And at the same time, removing face to face or real-time conversations with real people. Unfortunately, this is leaving a large proportion of people with disability out of the communications loop. Technologies may not be easy to use or accessible formats for people with disability.

People with intellectual disability have the right to effective communications to let them live a good life. CID's Position Statement includes:

  • What is technology?
  • Our Goal
  • Where things Stand
  • Case Studies
  • What is the solution?
  • What CID has done
  • What CID has achieved
