Jenny (15/9/1936-27/6/2023), led the establishment of IDEAS, an independent information service for people with disability and their families based in Tumut in NSW from the early 1980s. A computerised service from the start, it now operates nationally.

The Raising Children Network has released a new app called Raising Healthy Minds, which is designed to help parents monitor their child’s social and emotional wellbeing.

What is eBility?

eBility is an online marketplace for all disability equipment, accessible vehicles and more. It provides a safe and trusted space for users to search for or post their new and secondhand disability items up for sale online to find potential buyers.

eBility connects buyers and sellers of all things disability, new and secondhand. From aids, equipment and assistive technology (AT) to accessible vehicles and properties. eBility is the leading Australian accessible classifieds site and has a long and respected history. Established way back in 1998, eBility is now owned and operated by IDEAS, the knowledge experts in fact-checked verified disability information and connection. 

Our purpose

  2. To offer value by connecting sellers and buyers and free access for those wishing to donate items to new homes and users.
  3. To support and promote web accessibility always, with tips, tricks, and hacks written by subject experts.

Procedures

Any customer using our service has the right to inform an IDEAS staff member that they have a complaint.

The receiving, recording and responding to a customer complaint.

  • The complaint is documented in the IDEASHub Feedback/Complaints register. All correspondence with the customer is documented in full detail.
  • If the staff member is unable to resolve the complaint immediately, the staff member will advise the customer that the complaint can be escalated to the responsible Manager. The caller is offered two choices,
    • to wait on-hold while their call is transferred, or
    • the staff member can take their name and contact number and the Manager or Executive Officer will return their call within 48 hours. (Business days)
  • The staff member is to brief the Manager or Executive Officer regarding the nature of the complaint prior to the transfer of the call and the steps currently taken to resolve the matter. The Manager or Executive Officer will attempt to resolve the complaint within 14 days from receipt of the complaint.
  • The Executive Officer will inform a Board member or Chairperson of customer complaint with relevant details as reasonably necessary, or if the customer complaint is required to be escalated to the Board for further resolution.
  • The Executive Officer will inform the customer if they are unhappy with current suggestions of resolution they have further options they may choose between
    • customer can speak to a member of the Board of Directors (the telephone numbers will be provided on request) or
    • they may write to the Chairperson of the Board of their complaint (details of the address will be provided).
  • The Chairperson will attempt to resolve the concern within 30 days of receipt of the complaint. If the complaint is unable to be resolved, the Chairperson will take the complaint to the next IDEAS Board meeting.
  • The Board of Directors will review the complaint and provide some type of redress where it is decided as necessary and appropriate.
  • If the complaint is unable to be resolved, the customer may wish to speak to the NSW Ombudsman Community Service Division. Details to be provided upon request.

Our Board is made up of people from a diverse range of backgrounds. Each member has a disability or some life experience of disability. They also have the necessary skills to ensure appropriate governance for our organisation.

Members of our Board voluntarily provide their time and experience, coming from all walks of life. Our Constitution governs our Board and organisation. Representation from people covers metropolitan, regional and rural areas of Australia.

Martin Heing IDEAS Chair 

Martin Heng, Chair 

Martin has served as Chair of the IDEAS Board for 4 years and was appointed to the Victorian Disability Advisory Council in 2019. He has over 25 years of working in publishing & editing, having worked with Lonely Planet for over 20 years. Martin is also a regular, invited speaker on accessible travel at many travel conferences within Australia and around the world. A road accident in 2010 left him quadriplegic. Martin joined the IDEAS Board in May 2016.


Chris Dumas, Treasurer 

Chris Dumas, Treasurer

Chris has over 25 years of experience in accounting, auditing, and business development. He has been a Director of the Public Accounting Firm Bentleys Newcastle since 1999. He has specialist technical knowledge in capital gains tax and tax-effective business restructuring. He is a key member of the Bentleys Business Service Technical Advisory Committee and the lead auditor for Bentleys Newcastle’s involvement in the NSW Workers Compensation Premium audit programme. Chris joined the IDEAS Board in November 2013.

Andrew Bokor Board Member 

Andrew Bokor, Board Member 

Andrew’s reason for being is to contribute to the disability community through his lived experience after being discharged from the Army, serving 18 years in the Royal Australian Engineers. Being involved in the wider community allows him to exercise a strong sense of ethical justice, making people aware of their entitlements and empowering them through information. Andrew has been an IDEAS Board Member since December 2016.

Greg Auhl  

Greg Auhl, Board Member

Greg has significant experience within the field of education, having been a secondary teacher and leader before moving to the Higher Education sector. He is currently a Senior Lecturer within the Division of Learning and Teaching at Charles Sturt University, where he is Course Director for the University’s Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. Greg is the primary carer for his adult daughter, who has Down syndrome. Greg joined the IDEAS Board in December 2019.

Matthew "Matt" Levy  

Matthew ‘Matt’ Levy OAM, Board Member

Matt Levy was born with cerebral palsy and vision impairment. He has been to the past 5 Paralympic Games, winning in swimming 3 gold, 1 silver and 5 bronze medals. Matt has been in Corporate Change Management for over 12 years and is a graduate of the AICD (Australian Institute of Company Directors) Board of Directors. Matt has also completed an MBA in Leadership and Innovation and a Bachelor of Business in Management.

Sherine Soliman 

Sherine Soliman, Board Member

Sherine has 25 years of leadership expertise across Innovation, Product Development and Operations. A leader of large-scale global teams with a breadth of experience across different industries, including Medical Devices, Defence and Telecommunications. Sherine has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Sciences, has lived and worked in many geographies, and held a broad spectrum of roles ranging from hands-on technical roles in Research and Development to Project Management and Senior Management.
