A man in red shirt. The words " A new research project by 3DN"

The Department of Developmental Disability Neuropsychiatry (3DN) at UNSW Sydney is currently running a research project that aims to design, implement, and evaluate a new palliative care service for people with intellectual disability.

This is important because people with intellectual disability often find it hard to access palliative care that is tailored to their needs.

Improving palliative care for people with Intellectual Disability

UNSW Sydney Research Project – Improving palliative care for people with intellectual disability.

A research team led by Professor Julian Trollor at the Department of Developmental Disability Neuropsychiatry, UNSW Sydney, aims to design, implement, and evaluate a new palliative care service for people with intellectual disability. This is important because people with intellectual disability often find it hard to access palliative care tailored to their needs.

The team would like to hear from people who have experience supporting a person with intellectual disability during end of life. A support person is a family member, friend, or support person (paid and unpaid e.g., disability professional, advocate). Your experiences will be used to help us design a new model of palliative care which will be tested in 2022 in the South Western Sydney Local Health District.

Support people can contribute by completing a brief on-line survey or participating in an interview or focus group. They will receive a $120 voucher for their participation in an interview/focus group and can go in a prize draw to win a $120 voucher for completion of the survey.

Participation in the study involves either completing a brief online survey or talking to a member of our research team.
