Holbrook Meals on Wheels are currently supporting a 12-week Emergency Preparedness Project for people who live in the Greater Hume Council areas.

The program is named “ACT! Strengthening the emergency preparedness of vulnerable people.”

The project will support people to prepare for the 2021 summer disaster season. It is a collaborative toolkit, preparing older people for emergencies.

The programme is running now until 31st January 2022.

Being prepared can make an emergency less stressful. It gives you more control, and reduces the impact on you and those you love.

From drought to bushfires, to COVID-19, to floods and cyclones, over the last few years, every single one of us has been impacted by at least one large-scale emergency.

And while we cannot stop these emergencies and disasters from happening altogether, we can be ready for them.

Meals on Wheels NSW  in collaboration with emergency services has developed a range of easy-to-use tools and checklists to help prepare ahead of an emergency.

Through support from the Greater Hume Council Bushfire Recovery Grants programme, they can provide FREE

  • support and
  • equipment to prepare Emergency Plans,
  • an Emergency Box and
  • Grab and Go bag.

A trained and qualified emergency support worker will help older people to prepare and think about THEIR situation in the event of an emergency.

They can help access services from Fire & Rescue, Rural Fire Service and Red Cross to further assist emergency preparedness.

This service is available, totally FREE,  for to up to 40 households across the Greater Hume Council area.

People do not need to be a client of Meals on Wheels to access this service.
