About Our Organisation

Our Values

We believe the following are intrinsic to the organisation and everything we do:

  • Social Justice
  • Consultation
  • Integrity
  • Innovation

Our Vision

A world where people with disability live full, independent lives of their own choosing.

Our Objectives

  • Provide information and assistance to people who are aged; have a disability, or are disadvantaged;
  • Enable the frail aged; people with disabilities, their families, carers, supporters and service providers to become better informed when making decisions;
  • Improve awareness and understanding of disability and ageing issues and resources, including through community education, information provision and training; and
  • Do such other things as are minor, incidental or ancillary to the attainment of the prominent objects of IDEAS.

We do this by

  • Listening respectfully to every enquiry we are able to provide information to help people make decisions for themselves.
  • Up-dating and double checking our own data, we take a leadership role as a trusted source. We are always independent.
  • Educating communities and groups about disability.
  • Promote inclusiveness for all.
  • Being expansive in attitudes and views of ability-we provide a clarity around barriers to people with disability being able to choose for themselves.

Our plans – What we are planning to do

Enabling the Dreams of others is the Strategic Plan developed to guide our work in the next few years.

This insistence on enabling dreaming, imagineering, authorship, design and intent for good ordinary lives by people with disability is firmly based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of People with Disability. More importantly in the Australian experience, it combines the proper ideals of real life being about much more than service and supports in a parallel disability sector. This dreaming is right for our place and her peoples because it insists on an 'experience' frame.

Experiencing different choices optioned by the person in all life stages makes explicit the true value of the contributions of all citizens abilities.

It demands inclusion in all.

Our History

In 2007 IDEAS-Information on Disability Education and Awareness Service Inc was created as the result of a merger between two leading disability information providers – DIRC NSW Inc and IDEAS – Information on Disability Equipment Access Services Inc. The merger has given the new organisation a strong base to provide more extensive services with better resources to support people with disability of all ages, their families, carers and other supports access to the most up to date and accurate information in a timely and relevant manner.
